Project Updates NRCS Announces Additional Funds for Wildlife Habitat Program Madison, Wis…… The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced that Wisconsin will receive over $470,000 in additional funds in 2008 for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) for 2008. The program helps landowners to restore a variety of wildlife habitats that are in decline. Forest Legacy Program Nomination Applications Available Department of Natural Resources officials announced today that applications to nominate forest land for enrollment in Michigan’s Forest Legacy Program are now available online. NRCS Accepting EQIP Applications Farmers and landowners in Arkansas can submit applications anytime to apply for cost-share assistance to implement conservation activities through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). Wetland Reserve Program FY 2008 Geographical Caps With the current volatility of land values, it is proposed to have a separate Geographical Cap (GeoCap) for each county. Data from the report “North Dakota 2007 Land Values & County Rents” was used to set the GeoCap by county. Continuous CRP – a Soil Saving Bargain for Corn-Soybean Growers High grain prices are encouraging Wisconsin farmers to plant more corn and soybeans. However, the down-side is the risk of more soil erosion plus the risk of getting out of compliance for USDA programs. A good solution for these two problems is the Continuous Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Program Helps Farmers Protect Land Any landowner in the county who wants to do the right thing for local streams, neighbors' well water, and the health of the Chesapeake Bay can get a lot of help from the government.
