14 Project Updates Funding to Improve Water Quality in Grand Lake St. Marys Watershed Available Now Celina, June 1, 2009 - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) today announced that $1 million will be available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help improve the water quality of Grand Lake St. Marys. Information Meeting June 10. Conservation Innovation Grants in Aquaculture Available NRCS State Conservationist Sylvia Gillen has announced the availability of a new 2009 Conservation Innovation Grant dealing with aquaculture. $200,000 is available through a competitive grant process. The deadline for application is June 17, 2009.
Natural Resources Conservation Service Extends Deadline to June 26, 2009 for New Organics Initiative Sign Ups LITTLE ROCK, ARK., June 5, 2009 - Arkansas will receive more than $1.1 million for a new initiative to meet the Obama Administration's promise to encourage more organic agriculture production. Nationwide, $50 million is allocated to the program. Funding for the initiative is being made available as part of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
COLORADO STATE FOREST SERVICE IS ACCEPTING FOREST LEGACY PROGRAM PROPOSALS The Colorado State Forest Service currently is accepting Forest Legacy Program proposals. USDA FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR OHIO GRASSLAND OWNERS Columbus, May 29, 2009 - The USDA Ohio Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) today announced the availability of the Grassland Reserve Program (GRP) for Ohio producers. NRCS Provides Technical and Financial Assistance to Landowners for Ice Storm Cleanup The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is providing Arkansas landowners funding through the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program for the removal of ice storm debris from stream channels and bridge structures caused by the Jan. 26-27 ice storm.
OVER $1.8 MILLION AVAILABLE TO EXPAND ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN NEBRASKA LINCOLN, May 6, 2009— Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan announced yesterday that $50 million is now available to encourage more organic agriculture production. Funding for the initiative is being made available by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as part of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). NRCS ANNOUNCES FLOODPLAIN EASEMENT ASSISTANCE FOR LANDOWNERS MADISON, WI, June 2, 2009—USDA has announced the selections for its first national sign-up for floodplain easements through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The easements will cover more the 36,000 acres of land in 36 states. There was tremendous interest in the program, with more than 4,200 applications, totaling over $1.4 billion for 479,000 acres of flood-prone land nationwide. Organic Transition Plans Available for Wisconsin Farmers Organic Transition Plans are a new pilot practice now available through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. A special signup is now underway through May 29 at all USDA Service Centers in Wisconsin. Forest Management Plans for Woodland Owners Forest Management Plans are a new pilot practice now available through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. A special signup is now underway through May 29 at all USDA Service Centers in Wisconsin. New Organics Initiative Funding Application Extension Announced The USDA NRCS is extending the ranking period for Organics Initiative Funding through its EQIP. Initiative applications received from organic producers or producers in transition to organic farming will now be accepted until June 12, 2009. This is an extension of the May 29, 2009, deadline announced earlier. Applications received after June 12, 2009, will be accepted, but they will not be evaluated until the next ranking period.

private organizations to deliver conservation assistance to private landowners nationwide.
There are nearly 3000 conservation districts--one in almost every county. Now
expanded to serve all the conservation needs of our nation, districts educate
and help local citizens conserve land, water, forests, wildlife and other
