Alex Dykema

Alex has been involved with the Land Conservancy since 1995, initially on the Board and as a staff member since 1999.  As Staff Attorney, he is responsible for drafting conservation easements and other documents pertaining to land protection, working on the legal and tax issues involved in land protection efforts, and addressing other legal and organizational issues.

After growing up in the Boston area and spending summers as a camp counselor and wilderness guide in Wyoming, Alex migrated west after college.  He moved to the Seattle area and then to Portland for law school.  After graduation he and his wife Jennifer moved to Ashland, and then built a house in the Colestin Valley.  While he has since relocated to Shaker Heights, Ohio, he is dedicated to the protection of Southern Oregon’s unique landscapes and the communities they support.

Alex has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1995 after his graduation from Lewis and Clark Northwestern School of Law in Portland.  His undergraduate degree is in Environmental Studies from Brown University in Providence, R.I.  He has worked in environmental advocacy, planning, and as an attorney in private practice.  For the past fifteen years Alex has focused on the issues surrounding private land conservation, land trusts and non-profit organization.
