Bayfield Regional Conservancy

Founded by local citizens in 1996, the Bayfield Regional Conservancy is a 501 (c) 3 land trust that works in the Lake Superior basin and beyond in northwestern Wisconsin. Our mission is to save natural lands, waters, forest, farms and places of scenic, historic and spiritual value. The conservancy works on a voluntary basis with private landowners to preserve land through conservation easements. The Conservancy also buys land for nature preserves and provides technical support to local governments to carry out conservation initiatives.

Operating as an all-volunteer organization, the Conservancy first concentrated on saving the Brownstone Trail, a railroad grade that serves as a public walking trail from Bayfield to Port Superior Marina and has since contributed towards the protection of over 2,500 acres in Bayfield, Douglas, Sawyer and Ashland Counties.
