CA Forest Stewardship Helpline

The California Forest Stewardship Helpline is part of a stewardship cooperative program funded by the U.S. Forest Service, State and Private Forestry, in partnership with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).

Contract services are provided by the Northern California Society of American Foresters, a non-profit organization with a mission to advance the science, education, technology and practice of forestry.

The Helpline is staffed by a California Registered Professional Forester and provides free advice and agency or organization referrals. The Helpline can be reached at 1-800-738-TREE or at . The Helpline is staffed or monitored Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on regular business days and messages can be left at any time. Voice and e-mail messages are generally returned within one business day. T

he Helpline serves non-industrial private forest and woodland owners, professional foresters and other natural resource professionals, educators and students, citizens, groups or committees seeking natural resource information, as well as organizations such as Resource Conservation Districts.

Typical questions and referrals concern cost-share programs for forest management, advice on forest pest probems,CA Forest Practice rules and regulations,seedling sources for CA native forest trees, vegetation management practices to reduce fire hazards,and general forest management for small ownerships.
