Area Regulations:
  • Primitive camping is allowed on all units of the wildlife area, but no camping is allowed within one-quarter mile of designated parking areas
  • Trailers are not allowed
Special Restrictions:
  • Dogs may not be used to take/pursue mammals or for dog training between the first Saturday in April and the general opening of deer season
  • Dogs are not allowed for pig hunting at any time of year
  • Horses and bicyles are allowed within
  • Harley Gulch Unit is on the south side of Hwy 20 approximately 10 miles southeast from the junction with Hwy 53, near Walker Ridge Road. Park at the Judge Davis Trailhead parking area and head south on the trail.
  • North Fork Cache Creek Unit is on the south side of Hwy 20 approximately 5 miles southeast from the junction with Hwy 53. Park at the Redbud Trailhead parking area and head south on the trail.
  • The two units of the 2,330 acre Cache Creek Wildlife Area are cooperatively managed by The Bureau of Land Management, Yolo County Parks and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Both units provide access to the BLM Cache Creek Natural Area.
  • The majority of the wildlife area is fairly steep. Typical interior coast range chaparral species and oak-gray pine stands are found on the property. Associated with chamise stands are interior live oak, scrub oak, deer brush, toyon, birchleaf mahogany, yerba santa, gray pine, and others.
  • Cache Creek Wildlife Area and the BLM Cache Creek Natural Area are "non-motorized access only".
Recreational Use:
  • Type C Wildlife Area - no permits, passes, or reservations are required.
  • Birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities are excellent. A regular winter visitor to the area is the bald eagle which can be seen roosting or soaring from mid October through mid August.
  • Target shooting is not allowed.
  • Possession in the field and use of firearms and archery equipment is permitted only for the purpose of hunting on Cache Creek Wildlife Area and associated management units.
  • Allowed during open season for all legal species. Common game species include deer, elk, black bear, wild pig, rabbit, wild turkey, quail, pigeon, and dove.
  • Restrooms are located at trailheads.
