The Cochran County office is located in the South Plains Region of the Panhandle. The TAES Cochran County Program (directed by the Texas A&M University System, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the County Commissioners Courts of Texas Cooperating) strives to serve a local county population, of, approximately, 2,927. This, particular, population derives its main income from a mix of agriculture, city-county government, education, medical and other small commercial opportunities. A major point of interest includes the C.C. Slaughter Ranch Headquarters which was, once, part of an extensive headquarters complex of a cattle baron who established a ranching empire.
