Erin Chalmers
Erin Chalmers joined Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP in 2008 and is an associate at the firm. Mr. Chalmers represents environmental groups and public agencies in matters involving CEQA and NEPA, planning and zoning, waste management, rent control, and climate change.
Mr. Chalmers litigates cases in state and federal courts, at both the trial court and appellate level. He currently represents the Sierra Club and other environmental groups in numerous administrative and legal proceedings where his clients are working to protect open space from sprawling development and new freeways. He is one of the lead attorneys representing Sierra Club in Sierra Club v. County of Riverside, where his client, Sierra Club, is challenging the county’s approval of a massive new town that would irrevocably harm sensitive wildlife and cultural artifacts in adjacent Anza Borrego Desert State Park. He is also a lead attorney in Sierra Club v. County of Solano, where the Superior Court recently ruled in Sierra Club’s favor, ordering Solano County to enforce a voter initiative that limits the County’s ability to import large quantities of trash.
Mr. Chalmers graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2006, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. During law school, he served on the executive board of Wisconsin Environmental Law Advocates. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Chalmers worked for the Sierra Club’s Environmental Law Program in San Francisco, where he helped manage the organization’s nationwide docket of cases.
Mr. Chalmers is a member of the Bars of the States of California and Wisconsin (inactive).
