Gregory B. Upton

Gregory B. Upton ("Greg") joined Gold Weems in 1991 and is a shareholder and a member of the Board of Directors of the Firm.

Greg received his B.A. in Economics, summa cum laude, in 1982 from Tulane University, his J.D., cum laude, in 1985 from Tulane University Law School and his L.L.M. in Taxation in 1991 from George Washington University.  He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa (the National Leadership Honor Society).

After graduation, Greg served as a clerk to F.A. Little, Jr., Judge, U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana (1985 - 1986) and as a Captain in the United States Army, Judge Advocate General Corps (1996 - 2001).  As a JAG Officer, Greg served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuted soldiers for crimes ranging from drug use to homicide, and defended an Officer in a highly sensitive case which received national publicity.

Other Activities
Greg is active in his community. He has served on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations, including AFCO, Industries, Inc., The Alexandria Bar Association, Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (state-wide board), Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, Holy Savior Menard High School and the YMCA.

  • Extensive litigation experience successfully representing individuals, business and government entities. He represents individuals and businesses before the IRS, the Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation and in the courts. He represents individuals in bitter succession disputes. He represents business in contract disputes, construction disputes, retirement plan (ERISA) issues, non-compete issues, and in dealing with government regulations and entities.
