High Country RC&D Council

The Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) program ‘helps people in rural areas help themselves. Coordinated assistance is provided through the USDA and others to improve the social, economic and environmental conditions in the RC&D Area. High Country RC&D Area covers nine counties in  Southeast Idaho (Bonneville, Butte, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison and Teton county) and a portion of Teton County, Wyoming.

Here at High Country, we have been in business for 32 years as a 501(c) 3 non-profit. We look forward to the future with optimism and renewed enthusiasm. As ever, our programs will continue to provide valuable assistance to farmers, ranchers, forestland owners and communities in our region. But now we need your help.
The High Country RC&D Area is sponsored by counties, cities and conservation districts in the region.  An Area-Wide Council of elected members and appointed officials represent our sponsors and act as the policy-making body for the RC&D Area.

One member from each county serves on our Board of Directors.   The members of the board act as representatives for the interests of  their individual county.

The State of Idaho has nine RC&D Areas, providing assistance throughout the state.  A citizens group called a Council leads each of the areas.  Membership in these Councils represent official sponsoring organizations, which include American Indian tribes, county governments, soil and water conservation districts, towns, local organizations, special districts and others.  These local leaders focus on the environmental, economic and social needs of their area by assisting sponsors with projects relating to community development, land conservation, environmental enhancement and water management to enhance the quality of life.

Mission Statement:  Promote, deliver and assist local RC&D efforts and programs.

Vision Statement:  To be recognized as a leader in community development and natural resource conservation.
