Remote Fishing, canoe trips and four season hiking at Katahdin Lake, three miles from Mt. Katahdin. Housekeeping Cabins, Full and Modified Meal Plans Available.

Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps, established in 1885, are located on the south shore of Katahdin Lake in Baxter State Park, Maine.  Three miles from the base of Katahdin, our remote location is unique. There is no vehicular access. To reach us, one must hike 3.3 miles, arrive by float plane or during the winter cross country ski or snowshoe in.  The camps consist of eight cabins of various sizes, some with housekeeping facilities and a lodge with dining room and living room.

The view of Katahdin is what truly makes Katahdin Lake stand above all other wilderness waters in Maine. Arranged in a panorama of peaks, valleys and basins, the entire eastern massif  of the Katahdin Range is visible. Just to the north lie the Turner Mountains and in the distance stands the Traveler. It is no wonder that Governor Percival Baxter  envisioned the lake as the " crown jewel'" of the Katahdin region.

To visit Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps is to step back to a more quiet, peaceful time. Guests in summer can hike the surrounding trails, canoe or kayak on the lake, fish for native brook trout, observe the large variety of wildlife, or just relax on the sandy beach in front of camp. During the winter months exploration of the lake, woods and trails is done on snowshoes or cross country skis. Guests may also choose to make a day trip to Chimney Pond.  Whichever season you choose to visit us, you have the option of having us prepare and serve your meals or doing the cooking in your own cabin. We are quite happy to cater to special dietary needs should you decide to take meals in the lodge.
