James L. Olmsted, Esq.

Attorney Jim Olmsted received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Nevada at Reno.  Jim was awarded his Master's Degree for his scholarship in the area of psychology and the law, and he has had extensive experience with trial consulting involving complex litigation.  Jim received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis School of Law in 1987.  During law school, Jim interned with Judge Edward C. Reed at the Federal District Court for the District of Nevada. After graduation from law school, Jim clerked for Justice Charles E. Springer on the Nevada Supreme Court.  Jim is an active member of the state bar associations of California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.  He has been practicing zoning, land use, real estate and conservation law for eighteen years.  In addition to his legal practice, Jim has taught on the faculty of the University of Oregon School of Law and has a wealth of experience in the public interest sector. Jim has served on the board of directors of the Friends of the Columbia Gorge, the Friends of the Evergreen Highway, the Heritage Trust of Clark County, the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission of Truckee, California, and the Truckee Donner Land Trust. Of these organizations, Jim has served as vice-president of the Friends of the Evergreen Highway and as president of the Truckee Donner Land Trust.  Jim is a frequent speaker and writer on topics relating to conservation easements, land preservation and land protection.
