CSA Overview: Culinary Supported Agriculture

Your Membership Supports Our Farm and Other Local Producers

By joining Joe’s CSA (click the big green button on the right), you’ll be supporting not just Screamin’ Ridge Farm, but a bunch of other central Vermont farmers and food producers. Our mission is to find a wide variety of the best tasting local products for our customers, while also building markets for local food producers.
You’ll receive an approximately 10–15% discount compared to retail prices. The food producers benefit as well—they’ll receive more for their products than they would by selling them wholesale. The idea is to create a win:win situation for both producers and consumers!

Culinary Supported Agriculture is like value-added Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). A huge box of vegetables can be intimidating, but Joe’s CSA offers a mix of fresh local vegetables, plus other local foods in combinations that make sense in terms of meal preparation—it’s an idea that benefits both producers and CSA members. You’ll get a few items that you can either heat and eat (like soup from Joe’s Kitchen) or prepare in just a minute or two (maybe a slice of artisanal bread with goat cheese and arugula), and we post recipes and serving suggestions for just about everything in the box. You’ll find information about each share on the news/home page.
Summer and Winter CSA Seasons

Joe’s CSA runs in the summer and winter. Both seasons focus on:

High-quality, sustainably-produced local food from multiple local producers
Share boxes designed to make it easy to create great tasting, healthy meals
    Great customer service
Suggestions for using everything in the box (posted on our news/home page)

The Winter CSA runs for 20 weeks, with pickup every 2 weeks (plus a holiday break). Winter CSA shares include about a 50:50 mix of vegetables and “extras” like cheese, tempeh, bread, meat, and prepared foods. We are working to expand our selection of winter produce but, since we are sourcing local product, winter shares will always contain more root vegetables and other storage crops than summer shares.

The Summer CSA season is 16 weeks, with pickup each week. We’re offering “Full” shares and “Just Vegetables” shares. Both include a wide variety of sustainably and/or organically grown vegetables and fruit from our farm and several other local farms—they’re designed to take advantage of the season’s bounty! When you opt for the Full share, you’ll also get extras like sauces and meal starters from (our own) Joe’s Kitchen and other local food producers, plus meat, cheese, bread, and other goodies.
What You Can Expect in Your Boxes

Joe brings his chef’s palate to the task of organizing share contents as well as his many years as a hard-working guy with a family to help feed. Shares are organized around meal themes. In the past we have offered stir-fry, pizza, enchilada, and vegetable-gratin shares. Look through our news page to see the contents of shares we have offered in the past to get an idea of what you can expect.
