Kaniksu Land Trust

The Kaniksu Land Trust is a not-for-profit organization striving to ensure that the extraordinary open spaces of north Idaho and northwest Montana remain undeveloped now and forever. We promote and facilitate voluntary land conservation by working with landowners to keep these priceless lands intact.

The Kaniksu Land Trust has adopted the Land Trust Alliance’s Standards and Practices to ensure that professional and ethical policies and procedures are applied to all Kaniksu Land Trust transactions and operations.

The Kaniksu Land Trust’s vision is that 100 years from now, there will still be:
• Large tracts of undeveloped land to provide critical habitat for all species.
• A permanent land base to sustain vibrant, varied agriculture and forestry.
• Community access to natural areas for recreation and outdoor activities.
• Pristine waterways such as Lake Pend Oreille, the Clark Fork River and their tributaries.
• Sustained economic vitality due to well-balanced conservation and development.

The Kaniksu Land Trust is not anti-development. It realizes that growth is necessary. Its goal is to find a balance between growth and preservation. This will result in a vibrant community with ample opportunity for economic prosperity while protecting those areas that are important for maintaining a healthy standard of living for all residents.
