Karen Gjerdrum Fothergill

Karen Gjerdrum Fothergill is an associate in Andre, Morris & Buttery's Business and Real Estate Transactions Practice Group, concentrating in real property transactions, land use, agriculture and business law. She is also a member of the Firm’s Civil Litigation Group focusing in real property litigation matters. Karen was born and raised in Santa Maria, California. In 1998, Karen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies with a minor in International Economics from Vassar College and in 2005 received her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. While attending Wake Forest, Karen was the Editor of the Wake Forest Moot Court Problem Book and served as a member of the Executive Board of the Moot Court. In September 2005, Karen returned to Santa Maria and worked for a local law firm. Andre, Morris & Buttery welcomed Karen as an associate in October 2007.

Karen is admitted to practice in all of the courts of the State of California and United States District Court for the Central District of California and is a member of the Northern Santa Barbara County Bar Association, San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Karen's real estate and land use practice includes:

· Assisting owners in the development of subdivisions, including formation home owners’ associations, preparation of CC&R’s and related documents, and facilitating approval with the DRE

· Representing buyers and sellers of commercial, residential, and agricultural property

· Representing landlords and tenants in commercial and agricultural lease transactions.

Karen's business transactions practice emphasizes:

· Organization and operation of corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships

· Buying and selling businesses.

· Negotiating and drafting business agreements.

Karen’s litigation practice emphasizes

· Quiet Title Actions

· Prosecuting and defending priority claims

· Representing owners and lenders to preserve legal and equitable interests

Karen takes pride in serving in her hometown community of Santa Maria. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Maria and an honorary board member and former officer of the North County Rape Crisis & Child Protection Center.
