Little River County Cooperative Extension Serviceupdated: November 2015

We are part of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service’s statewide network and the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture.  Our mission is to provide research-based information through non-formal education to help all Arkansans improve their economic well-being and the quality of their lives.  Whether it is agriculture, 4-H, health and living, or community development, the Little River County Extension Office is at your service!

Little River County Agriculture

Little River County consists of farming, ranching and timber.  There are 482 farms with 139,300 acres of farmland.  Major crops include: soybeans, corn, grain sorghum, and winter wheat.  There are 185,000 acres of timber and approximately 28,000 head of cattle and calves in the county.  Livestock and crops accounted for 73 million in income for the county.

The Little River County Extension Office conducts demonstrations, training, and research on an annual basis.  Pesticide applicator training are conducted each year to keep producers current with state regulations.  Soil samples and diagnostic samples can be submitted to the county office for testing.  Demonstrations are conducted with local producers to educate them on current research based U of A recommendations. The Little River County office works closely with the U of A specialists and professors to conduct research on local issues concerning Little River County farmers.
