Nature's Legacy

Nature's Legacy was conceived by a founding committee of individuals from various sectors of the provincial environmental movement who saw the need for an organization that could bridge the gap between the conservation capabilities and the conservation needs of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The organization was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 2001 under the name "The Newfoundland and Labrador Legacy Nature Trust Inc.", and received charitable status under the Income Tax Act in 2005.

Nature's Legacy is dedicated to fostering a culture of environmental stewardship in the province. We invest in projects and facilitate partnerships that integrate the conservation of the natural environment with the social, economic and cultural well-being of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be defined by the land and surrounding sea. Nature's Legacy envisions all people of this province sharing a culture of stewardship for our natural environment.

1. To raise funds for conservation in the province, and generally match conservation needs with sources of support

2. To promote and facilitate the development and implementation of regional and provincial-scale conservation inititatives; and

3. To acquire and hold ecologically important land

Recognizing that there is an existing framework of organizations, community groups, academia, business and government with expertise in conservation, Nature's Legacy works with and supports these organizations in identifying and carrying out projects province-wide.
