New York Environmental Quality Incentives Program

Program Description

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary conservation program from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.  All sign-ups are conducted at USDA Service Centers in New York.  The program supports production agriculture and environmental quality as compatible goals. Through EQIP, farmers may receive financial and technical help with structural and management conservation practices on agricultural land.   General Program Description

The state is divided into 13 watersheds.  Each watershed has unique local ranking criteria, eligible practices, and separate funding pools.  There is a statewide pool of funds for Limited Resource Farmers.  New this year is statewide funding to provide incentive payments for participants to develop Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP).

Any producer engaged in livestock or crop production on eligible land may apply for EQIP. Eligible land includes cropland; pastureland; private non-industrial forestland; and other farm lands as determined by the Secretary of Agriculture.
