Philip C. Hunt
A 1975 graduate of the Harvard Law School, Phil Hunt is a shareholder and director of Perkins Thompson, having joined the firm on a full-time basis in 1980 following the completion of his military service with the United States Air Force. Mr. Hunt's principal areas of practice fall in the areas of estate planning and probate administration, elder law, federal and state tax law, and business transactions planning for small businesses, including sales and purchases of businesses and commercial properties. 

Mr. Hunt is a member of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel and is past chair Uniform Trust Code Sub-Committee of Maine State Bar Association. He is the author of Maine Probate Laws and co-author of Maine Probate Procedures, two treatises on probate law and estate administration. He is the author of Maine Code Comments for Part IV of the Uniform Trust Code. Mr. Hunt has been selected by publisher MCLE New England as editor of its Practical Guide to Estate Planning in Maine, to be published in April 2012. Mr. Hunt has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Maine Law School teaching the subject of Estate Planning. 

Mr. Hunt has given 20 years of service to the Town of Cumberland, including 12 years membership and chairmanship of the Cumberland Planning Board; member of the Board of Appeals, the School Building Committee, the School Facilities and Enrollment Committee, and the Growth Management Committee; Member, Maine Medical Center Planned Giving Committee; Negotiated settlement of many tax collection cases with IRS for VLP Tax Assistance Project; Cumberland North Yarmouth Lions Club (King Lion 2004); Secretary of North Yarmouth Lions Club 2000-2003, 2005-2010; Organizer of North Yarmouth Lions Club Enterprise Development Fund to award micro-capital grants to young people interested in starting a business; Manager of Cumberland North Yarmouth Lions Club Scholarship Fund to award scholarships to college students.

In 2008, Mr. Hunt received a Volunteer Service Award from the Maine Board of Bar Overseers for service as an expert witness before the Grievance Commission and the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He is a Fellow of the Maine Bar Foundation.
Mr. Hunt has been Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Maine Law School, teaching the course in Estate Planning (2007-2009). Mr. Hunt was a presenter at a seminar on Advanced Estate Planning and Administration (2008), a seminar on Partnership and LLC Taxation (2007), a seminar on Estate Planning and Administration (2006), a seminar on Counseling the Elder Client (2006), as well as a seminar on the Uniform Trust Code for the Maine Bar Association (2005), and a seminar on Probate Administration (2005). In addition he has been the presenter of various programs on Charitable Giving, Advanced Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning and Elder Law. 

Mr. Hunt was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2011 (copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc. of Aiken, S.C.), and for inclusion in New England Super Lawyers (2011), in the fields of Trusts and Estates and Probate for Maine. He is AV Peer Review Rated for Ethical Standards and Legal Ability by Martindale-Hubbell.
