Area Regulations:
  • Camping is not allowed
  • Removal of mineral, archaeological, or natural resources in any form is prohibited except as provided in Title 14, §650.
  • Motorized vehicles are prohibited except on designated access roads and parking areas
  • Any refuse resulting from a person's use of an area must be removed from the area by that person
Special Restrictions:
  • Entry allowed only with special permit
  • Horses are prohibited from entering the reserve
  • Arrangements for access must be made with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife regional office.

  • Located in the central Sierra Nevada foothills, this reserve combines unusual soils (Gabbro complex) and mediterranean climate to support three distinct biotic communities: chamise chaparral, foothill woodland, and Ponderosa pine forest.
  • The unique soil type also supports a number of rare plant species such as the Pine Hill flannel bush (Fremontodendron californicum ssp. decumbens), Pine Hill ceanothus (Ceanothus roderickii), Layne's butterweed (Packera layneae), El Dorado mule ears (Wyethia reticulata), and El Dorado bedstraw (Galium californicum ssp. sierrae).
Recreational Use:
  • Limited to use by schools, botanists, and colleges for educational or research purposes or by special arrangement with the region.
Pine Hill is managed under a cooperative agreement among nine federal, state, and county agencies.
  • The Folsom Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management schedules springtime guided field trips to view wildflowers and other features at Pine Hill.
