SCNZ Architects
At SCNZ Architects, we believe in practical sustainablity. Buildings are the leading consumers of energy and material resources (up to 75% by some estimates). Reducing this consumption with reasonable and practical sustainable design approaches not only benefits the environment, but also can result in real long term operational cost savings over the life of the building.

For us, sustainability is a holistic approach to designing and building. "Green" or sustainable design takes into account local climate, geography and socio-economic factors. While many people associate green deisgn with exotic construction such as straw bale walls, it can really be as simple as orienting the building to optimize natural light while reducing heat gain, or using conventional high performance wall systems to provide passive interior temperature and moisture control.

SCNZ has multiple LEED Accredited Professionals on staff and has experience in implementing numeorus green technologies into construction, including photovoltaic systems (solar panels), rainwater recovery systems, geothermal heating and cooling, high performance building envelope design, and use of sustainable materials.

Additionally, our extensive experience with historic renovation also works in tandem with our sustainable design approach. Re-using existing buildings is an extremely sustainable approach to limiting construction debris in landfills and the consumption of new construction materials.
