Salida District of the Colorado State Forest Serviceupdated: October 2015

The Salida District of the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) is one of 16 districts and three field offices located throughout Colorado. We host the Gunnison Field Office within the Salida District.

Our mission is to achieve stewardship of Colorado’s diverse forest environments for the benefit of present and future generations.

At the Salida District we fill a variety of professional and technical roles for private landowners and communities in both forest and urban settings. Trees are our specialty, from small to large, with needles or leaves. Our desire is to help people be good stewards of the land.

Harmful insects can be transported in firewood, particularly if the trees cut died very recently or were in the process of dying. If firewood has no bark or the bark easily comes off by hand, tree-killing insects should be absent.  Check green wood for unwanted occupants between the bark and wood.
