Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue

Animal Care

Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. We take in around 1,500 animals each year and strive to give each animal the quality care it deserves.

We work with the entire county to make sure our wildlife neighbors have a place to seek medical care and recover before they are returned back into the wild. We work with a team of Good Samaritan veterinarians local to the area who have offered their services for free or at a discounted price. Our vet on record is Dr. Dan Famini who has years of experience working with wildlife and providing medical care to all varieties of wildlife species, both local to the county and exotic.

We are a non-profit organization consisting of over 100 volunteers, five full time staff members and two part time staff members.  We must raise over $200,000 a year to keep the center running smoothly and efficiently. To donate or volunteer see our Contribute page.

Along with our efforts to care for native wildlife in Sonoma County, we are dedicated to the promotion of understanding and appreciation of wildlife through our Education Outreach Program. We reach out to local schools, organizations and the general public through presentations, tours, fairs and community markets to teach them about our wildlife center and how to coexist peacefully with wildlife.

SCWR has also created an Exclusion Service to help the public with nuisance wildlife in a humane way rather than having wildlife trapped and euthanized unnecessarily. Our Exclusion Technician helps home owners and business owners with animals in their walls, under buildings, in attics and in eaves and evicts the animals permanently from the area and seals up the building to keep future animals from getting in.

We are continually expanding our center and currently are building a new Raptor Recovery Center and a North American River Otter enclosure and hope to continue to expand  so we can give the animals a great place to recover and the public a great place to learn about wildlife.
