Horseback Riding

Trail rides are on our privately owned ranch lands. Trail rides are led by experienced wranglers across many miles of rugged terrain, rolling hills, through wooded areas and across pastures of grazing cattle. Wildlife is abundant on the ranch and guests often see whitetail deer and other wildlife. All of our horses are well-trained, healthy and superbly groomed. We will be able to select one that suits you just right. During your visit, you will be allowed to ride the same horse each day or you may ride different horses as you may choose.

Trail rides last from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours and are available for ranch guests and residents of the area. The cost is $45.00 per trail ride for each guest not staying at the Ranch. Residents of the area enjoy riding our many trails.

Riding Classes and Private Lessons in Western Riding are a regular part of the St. John Ranch Program.

St. John has an excellent riding arena and a round pen for guests and for the Horseback Riding Camp. Lessons are available for area residents and for all guests at the ranch.

Water Sports

Lake Claiborne is only a stone's throw from the ranch and has a land area of 6,500 acres with 40 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 18 feet. It is spring-fed and clear all year, and is one of the best bass-fishing lakes anywhere. White perch and sun-fish are also in abundance. Lake Claiborne is ideal for water-skiing and jet-skis. There are several marinas near the ranch including Parden's Paradise and Pleasure Point; there are also several public boat launches nearby. Bring your own equipment during your stay at the ranch and enjoy Lake Claiborne.

There are five other lakes near the ranch: Lake Bisteneau, Lake D'Arbonne, Black Lake, Lake Earling and Corney Lake. Bass Tournaments are held on a regular basis at all of these lakes including Lake Claiborne. You may get a schedule of the tournaments at the ranch.

The ranch has one of the best fishing ponds to be found anywhere. Larger than most ponds, it is fully stocked with bass and bream. We have a great place to clean your fish. Then, fry them and serve them for dinner!

The ranch is associated with two golf courses in the immediate area. Trails End Golf Course is an 18 hole course that is very hilly, has lots of lakes and is very challenging. This beautiful course is available for our guests 7 days a week for a $12.00 green fee. Carts are also available. This course is located in Bienville Parish, 15 miles south of the ranch.

The Homer Country Club offers a 9 hole, well manicured course that is only 5 miles North of the ranch. Carts are not available and green fees are only $10.00 for ranch guests.

Rates for all activities can be found on our website.
