The Conservation Foundation

Established in 1972 by business and community leaders, The Conservation Foundation is a not-for-profit land and watershed protection organization. Our headquarters are located in Naperville, Illinois, on a 60-acre working farm, and a program office is located in Montgomery, Illinois on a preserved farmstead.

The mission of the Foundation is to preserve open space and natural lands, protect rivers and watersheds, and promote stewarship of our environment. The Foundation maintains a support base of more than 4,000 members and donors, and 500 volunteers in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will Counties, Illinois. Although we work throughout Northeastern Illinois, these are the counties in which we focus our efforts.

Land Preservation
The Conservation Foundation preserves and enhances open and natural lands. Our primary activity is devoted to the facilitation and brokering of land transactions between property owners and public land preservation agencies. In addition, The Conservation Foundation purchases open space, and accepts donations of land and conservation easements.

River and Watershed Protection
The Conservation Foundation protects and enhances rivers and watersheds by improving water quality and stream ecosystems, preserving stream corridors, and increasing citizen awareness. Primary activity is focused on the DuPage River, Aux Sable Creek, Manhattan Creek, Blackberry Creek, Big Rock Creek, Salt Creek and the Fox River.

The Conservation Foundation encourages and supports environmentally sound land use policies and practices by providing a reasoned voice on conservation in the area. The Foundation identifies conservation issues, creates public forums to inform people, provides information on conservation issues, and champions public action that is in concert with our mission.

The Conservation Foundation fosters an understanding and appreciation of the environment. This is done through working with both children and adults, in schools, and in residential, community and professional settings.

If you would like to add your voice for the protection of our vanishing forests, farms and open spaces, and help keep our waterways clean and healthy for present and future generations, then you are invited you to join The Conservation Foundation.
