Master Hunting, Master Fishing, Master Recreation

Fully guided and outfitted canoeing and snowshoeing trips. Courses in primitive and modern wilderness skills and survival. Earth Skills Semester Program.

We're a bushcraft, survival, guide training and wilderness expedition school established in 1999 and based on the Aroostook River in Masardis, Maine. We teach college-accredited, GI Bill approved semester and yearlong immersion programs in bushcraft and wilderness guide training, as well as shorter courses on wilderness survival and tradtional north woods crafts. We also lead canoe and snowshoe expeditions and fishing trips (more on what we do).

We work with groups and individuals seeking to learn and experience a self-reliant outdoor life using traditional skills and a few simple tools. Our long-term immersion programs are the longest and most comprehensive bushcraft, survival and guide training courses in North America, and we've run more of them than any other school (20 as of spring, 2012). Created with professional outdoor leaders, college students and military veterans in mind, they are intellectually and physically rigorous and have college credit and tuition financing available. Our week-long and short courses are designed for hikers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts looking to become more skilled, confident and experienced.

We're the high-skill, low-tech alternative to the large wilderness education companies. Instead of traveling through the backcountry using space-age gear as an umbilical cord back to town, we focus on traditional bushcraft skills where participants learn that they're an active part of the natural world, not an observer. Like our ancestors, we solve problems with knowledge and skill, not with high-tech equipment.

Our instructors are Registered and Master Maine Guides licensed by the state, and are among the most experienced in North America. We've guided wilderness expeditions in Maine, New Hampshire, Quebec, New Brunswick, Alaska and the Florida Everglades (more on our history).

Simplicity and do-it-yourself are a lifestyle here, not a slogan. Our curriculum is organized around intensive outdoor living experiences with an emphasis on traditional bushcraft skills, nature knowledge and the wilderness living and traveling skills of professional Maine guides (scroll down for the 7 elements of our programs). In addition to the curriculum, there are many lessons learned as a result of living outdoors for an extended time that can't be learned any other way. The result is to make you better, safer, more knowledgeable, more confident and more at home in the forest.
