Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund, Inc. ('VCLF')

Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund, Inc. ("VCLF") is a nonprofit organization which seeks to conserve Virginia's natural resources to address climate change, educate the public especially school children and provide for public access and enjoyment of the outdoors. Our work in preserving and restoring wildlife habitat is also designed to create economic activity through the recreational and mixed use of Virginia's forests and open spaces. VCLF is a member of the Kissito, Inc. portfolio of companies. The relationship between health, nutrition, and our natural environment is well documented, and VCLF and Kissito seek to blend these three disciplines to improve the quality of life for the people of Virginia while sustaining our natural resources.

Natural Bridge

The Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund is currently predominantly working at Virginia's Natural Bridge Park & Historic Hotel. The 1,600 acre site located in Rockbridge County, Virginia is transitioning to a focus on conservation, education and outdoor recreation. The hotel, restaurant and activities onsite have adopted a recycling program, as well as water and energy conservation initiatives. The site's first energy audit was completed in May 2014, and a water conservation program was implemented in May as well. The interpretive programs at Natural Bridge Park are compliant with Virginia's Standards of Learning, and are a staple visit for school children across the state and neighboring states.

Virginia's Natural Bridge Park is expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation in the area. Along with hiking trails opening up on the property, Natural Bridge is also partnering with local businesses to offer recreation opportunities for guests. Some of these businesses include Twin Rivers Outfitters in Buchanan, and Stone Bridge Equestrian Center in Natural Bridge.

Virginia's Treasures

VCLF is working on an initiative with our state and federal agency partners to acquire, manage, and transfer into public ownership over 10,000 acres of the best properties in Virginia for biodiversity conservation, historic resources conservation, water quality protection, and environmental education. Multiple properties stretching across the Commonwealth are under evaluation for inclusion in the Virginia's Treasures initiative for 2015.
