Warren County SCD

The Warren County Soil Conservation District is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of our natural resources. It was established in 1952 as a special purpose subdivision of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture to safeguard our soil and water resources. The District is responsible for the control and reduction of soil erosion and sedimentation in Warren County.

With the passage of the New Jersey Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Act, Chapter 251, P.L. 1975, the District has been able to reduce these resource problems which result from urban sprawl. As one of fifteen soil conservation districts in New Jersey, it is the responsibility of the Warren County Soil Conservation District to review, certify, and enforce soil erosion and sediment control plans. In addition to administration of this act, the District is also involved in a number of other programs.

The Warren County Soil Conservation District began a forestry program in 1985. This program provides technical assistance on a wide variety of forestry matters to private landowners and municipal governments throughout Warren County. The services available through this program include: development of comprehensive forest management plans, timber stand improvement, timber harvesting arrangements, reforestation and tree planting, and urban forestry program planning.

Public information and outreach is another focus of the District. Promoting stewardship through natural resource conservation is beneficial to the environment and all of its inhabitants. The District maintains an active environmental education program which has assisted both teachers and students. The program also assists the general public through workshops, displays, and booths. Recognizing the value of natural resources is the best way to encourage wise land-use practices.
