Locally Led Conservation

West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District is a state-designated special district.  Our mission is “To conserve, protect and develop soil and water resources; to help with the development of all natural resources in west county for the benefit of the people, wildlife and the environment.”

West Multnomah SWCD has a seven-member Board of Directors which includes representatives of five geographic zones, and two at-large Directors. Directors are elected by the public on the general ballot, and serve without pay. The Board also appoints Associate Directors to assist with projects. Our District encompasses all of Multnomah County west of the Willamette River . It also includes all of Sauvie Island , by special agreement with Columbia County SWCD.  Ross Island , in the Willamette River is in the East Multnomah SWCD.  

FISH Grants

Financial Incentives for Sustainable Habitats (FISH) advances the mission of the District by leveraging District funds through conservation-related work that is carried out by cooperators.

    ~ Up to $10,000
    ~ Up to 50% match
    ~ Supports conservation projects, conservation education, and community events that promote natural resource conservation.

Must address one or more of the following: water quality, watershed health, flora health, wildlife habitat, fish habitat.
