Ray Lyons

Attorney Ray Lyons assists landowners, developers, and conservation organizations throughout central New England with their plans to protect open space, produce housing, promote “livable” communities, and preserve and enhance their land’s value. He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire.

Attorney Lyons promotes the creative use of conservation and cluster developments, tax credits, government grants and purchases, and investments from conservation organizations and individuals to protect open space and enhance landowner value.

For landowners who choose to sell or develop their land, conservation and cluster developments can significantly reduce infrastructure expenses (such as road construction and utilities) and increase their land’s net value. Landowners who place a conservation restriction on their land or give their property to a qualifying conservation organization can receive considerable tax relief (including federal income and estate taxes and local real estate taxes).

Attorney Lyons graduated with a BA degree from Ithaca College and received his JD (cum laude) from Suffolk University Law School. He frequents land use, tax, and probate programs at the Lincoln Land Institute, Harvard Program for Lawyers, University of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Bar Association, and other programs throughout New England.

Attorney Lyons is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, New Hampshire Bar Association, North Middlesex Bar Association, National Association of Homebuilders, and the Northeast Builders Association. He is a Coverts coordinator, a former Trustee of the Groton Conservation Trust, served on Groton’s Planning Board, and supports and represents the New England Forestry Foundation, a regional non-profit conservation organization based in Groton, Massachusetts.
