MFA was organized in 1938 as a private non-profit organization representing a broad range of members such as timberland owners, professional foresters, loggers, forest products companies, wood suppliers and suppliers of products and services who serve our industry.
The Mississippi Forestry Association works for its members:
- promotes responsible forest management
- maintains a positive political and economic climate for forestry
- spreads the good news about forestry in Mississippi
Sustainable Forest Management
MFA is leading the implementation in Mississippi of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. SFI ® is a nation-wide comprehensive program of forestry and conservation practices designed to ensure that future generations of Americans will have the same abundant forests that we enjoy today. Associated with the SFI ® are performance measures to gauge Mississippi's progress in achieving SFI ® objectives, including an annual report to the public.
Positive Political and Environmental climate
MFA protects and promotes the interests of our members through our government affairs efforts in the state and federal legislative process. Throughout the year, MFA keeps members up to date on political and legal issues impacting forestry.
Spreading good news about forestry
MFA works to spread the good news about forestry in Mississippi through its publications, Tree Talk and The Voice of Forestry, through its affiliated County Forestry Associations, by sponsoring programs for Teachers and kids, and by annually recognizing outstanding members of the forestry community.
